SUDDENLY: NEW SHORT MUSIC now streaming!
Developed entirely by young industry professionals during Australia’s second COVID-19 lockdown, “SUDDENLY: A Short New Musical” is streaming FREE on YouTube, right now. The all-new 30-minute musical film takes theatrical innovation to the next level in a stage production designed entirely for the camera. “SUDDENLY” features an original contemporary pop / rock theater score by local singer-songwriter Jordie Race-Coldrey, and a world-class cast of Melbourne’s most exciting professional and future talent.
What started as a passionate project led by creative producer Dean Gild quickly turned into a fully developed musical experience. The unique production embraces the digital renaissance of live theater through filmed media, unifying the scale and electricity of live performance, with the nuance and intimacy of film.
“SUDDENLY” reveals the story of a strained relationship between a mother and daughter, and how they are forced to come to terms with the issues that cause their breakup, reflecting on their pasts, their innate insecurities and personal struggles. The music emphasizes the importance of strong family relationships, the power to cope with your past traumas, and acts as a reminder to appreciate what and who you have.
Not too long ago, Jordie Race-Coldrey (director, songwriter, co-writer) and Dean Gild (producer, co-writer) were chatting about Zoom from their parents’ home in Melbourne, hypothesizing this. what would this project be and how it could develop beyond the enthusiasm and passion that they shared with each other. Not only did the effects of COVID-19 force everyone in all industries to look to new ways of doing business, the two had never even created something like this before the world turned upside down. Jordie and Dean were able to tap into a slate completely virgin of traditions and standards and create something completely original. It’s amazing what can be achieved with a room (or zoom) full of passionate young creatives.
After a first sold-out screening at the Lido cinemas on Thursday April 29, SUDDENLY is now streaming
