On Wednesday, apps like MPL, Hala Play, My Circle 11, had to update their terms and conditions for Karnataka users. “Sorry! Your state law does not allow you to play fantasy sports” appeared when opening the app. However, Dream 11 is still running in the state and it is not yet known when the company will suspend its services in the State.

Just to find out, earlier states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Odisha, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Sikkim had already banned online gaming apps.

Reports also suggest that the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) is considering taking the Karnataka government to court, that this will hurt Karnataka’s position as a starting hub in India and lead to job losses. and revenue for the state. . There are nearly 92 registered gaming companies in Bengluru employing over 4,000 people. “Over the past three years, international investors have invested around INR 3,000 crore in gaming and animation start-ups in the state,” IAMAI said in a statement.

Gaming platforms and other concerned bodies have often cited Supreme Court rulings that specifically characterized games like rummy and fantasy sports as games of skill, and therefore excluded them from the scope of the laws. on gambling.
