Interview with the young Phenom FaZe K1NG Fortnite
Last week, the Game Haus had the chance to interview young phenomenon, FaZe K1NG, to talk about his early days and ask him what it means to play Fortnite professionally at such a young age while representing his country.
FaZe K1NG is one of the best up and coming Fortnite players in the world right now. Thiago “K1NG” Lapp, originally from Argentina, is a former winner of the “FaZe 5”. At the time, he was one of the youngest members of FaZe. Now, after just a few years since joining the popular gaming organization in December 2020, he’s certainly made a name for himself.
By now, K1NG has already won 18 top spots as the game’s young superstar. A player known for his quick wit and build, K1NG has recently caught the attention of many of Fortnite’s top pros as he continues to mow the competition.
It has since garnered a considerable number of subscribers, amassing 1.6 million Twitch subscribers, 1.1 million Youtube subscribers, over 600,000 Instagram subscribers, 550,000 Twitter subscribers and 340,000 subscribers on TikTok. K1NG is already turning heads and living up to its namesake.
Where did you get the name K1NG?
“When I was creating my Fortnite account I wrote another version of my name which is Thiago. It was originally TG K1NG, but then I deleted TG and now it’s just K1NG.
What game was your first love?
“My first love was Counter Strike 1.6.”
Why did you enter Fortnite as an esport and not just any other esports?
“Fortnite caught my eye because it’s something different from other games, also because it’s in third person view. The other thing that caught my attention is that you can also build things, which makes it different.
What do you like most about competing in Fortnite?
“What I love the most about competing in Fortnite is that I can show my level to everyone. I can compete with other players and always give my best to win tournaments.
What are the challenges that you may have encountered that prevented you from participating in the competition?
“When I was a kid, I played Counter Strike, I was ten years old. The minimum age to compete was well above. But when I first started playing Fortnite I was already thirteen, which made me really happy to be able to participate.
Did starting at such a young age have any effect on your playing style?
“I wanted to prove that young people, like me, could be at the level of older professional players.”
Who is the person you like to play with or with whom you like to play?
“The person I love to play with is Tayson who is a European player. The person I would love to play with the most right now is SeeYun from Brazil, he makes me laugh and I love playing with him.
What made you want to join FaZe and why?
“When I was younger, I admired FaZe. I really liked their dress style. It was one of my goals to join them as I always used to watch their Counter-Strike matches. They started this contest and I knew I could be a part of it. It was one of my goals to be there, and I won, which was really cool that it happened.
Being from Argentina, have you felt a sense of pride in being able to represent your country?
“I am very proud to be Argentinian. I was born Argentinian and I will always be Argentinian. I am proud to represent my flag in competitions and I am really happy to be able to represent my country.
What is the future of FaZe K1NG, a possible new game? More content?
“It’s not really in my head right now. I can’t predict the future. But what I can say is that I can keep playing Fortnite until there is a new game or something going on. Then I want to create more content like any other streamer.
