Fortnite 3D artist’s Overwatch map design is so beautiful it should be in-game
Overwatch is currently experiencing a drought of new maps for competition and fast-paced play, but an impressive new design by a 3D artist who works on Fortnite for Epic Games has us dreaming of a new stage to play on.
The last time Overwatch players received a new card for fast-paced, competitive play was in April 2019 with the release of Havana.
We got the Deathmatch Kanezaka map back in December 2020, but with no sign of any new full-size scenes until Overwatch 2’s release, one artist’s impressive German creation gives us plenty of time to think about, although we can’t play. he.
Tobias Koepp, who is currently working as a 3D artist and as an environmental artist at Epic Games for Fortnite, created an original map called “ Hansestadt ” based on northern Germany and shared a look fascinating about his process on the game artist Blog.
While this fits in perfectly with the battle royale he works for, we also have the stealthy suspicion that Koepp might have had Overwatch in mind when designing this beauty.
It has choke points between widely open areas for teams to fight, and even a road that cuts through anything that looks perfect for pushing a payload.
There’s a glitch here, and if you’re a longtime Overwatch fan, you might have noticed it already, but Hansestadt seems to take place in the present, as opposed to the futuristic setting we’re used to seeing in the game.
Besides those minor details, there isn’t much we can find to knock this design out because it is absolutely stunning. Having none of the damage seen on Eichenwalde or Black Forest maps, it looks almost too clean to fight.
While this might not be an Overwatch map, that won’t stop us from imagining what it would be like to play if it did.
It certainly looks like we won’t be getting any more new maps until the sequel to the game, but at least there are plenty of ideas for us to think about.
