3 GTAs Arrested After Drug Gun Seized By Cobourg And Port Hope Police
Three people from the Greater Toronto Area face drug and gun charges following a joint investigation by Cobourg and Port Hope City Police.
Launched earlier this month, the investigation focused on illegal drug activities in the two cities. According to the Cobourg Police Department, the investigation led to the arrest of two men and a woman as they exited a vehicle in a parking lot in Port Hope on Thursday.

It is alleged that a man tried to flee from the police but was quickly arrested. He was found in possession of a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with a laser sight.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 52 grams of suspected fentanyl, 36 grams of cocaine and 27 methamphetamine crystals, $ 800 in cash, a scale and a cell phone.
The total value of the drugs seized is $ 27,600.
“This is the largest seizure of fentanyl in the history of the Cobourg Police Department,” police said. “Fentanyl represents 5,200 individual uses that could potentially have caused so many drug poisoning. “
Deopaul Baneswaire, 23, of Brampton, Nicholas Persaud, 21, of Mississauga, and Lisa Persaud, 21, of Toronto, were each arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance in view of trafficking (fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine).
Baneswaire was also charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing that his possession is unauthorized, carrying a concealed weapon and reckless use of a firearm.
Baneswaire and Lisa Persaud were also charged with Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $ 5,000.
The three defendants were taken into custody for a bail hearing scheduled for Friday in Cobourg court, police said Thursday evening.
